bDr Ghulam Jilani

Dr. Ghulam Jilani is a General Practitioner by profession. He graduated in medicine from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad in 1989 and is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).Outside the domain of medicine, Dr Jilani has always maintained aflair for Urdu literature since he was a student in Pakistan. He is astrong proponent of advancement of Urdu language and maintenance of linguistic and cultural continuity amongst Pakistani diaspora in Australia. He believes one should stay true to one’s roots and one should not lose sight of where one started. He also advocates that all children of Pakistan parents must learn Urdu so as to be comfortable to communicate in Urdu with others when they visit Pakistan.

Culture and language are intertwined and without knowing the language one cannot maintain one’s cultural identity. Australia being a multicultural society provides ample opportunities to the migrants to observe, introduce and promote their cultures and literature in a bid to their integration in this society on one hand and maintaining their cultural and linguistic identities on the other. Pakistani literature is rich and remarkable and needs to be introduced to the world in general and Pakistani children living outside Pakistan in particular. He hopes that this forum will go a long way in advancing and promoting Pakistani language, literature and culture, globally in the years to come.
